Religious Education Policy in Public Schools During the New Order

The new order government policy about religious education in state schools gradually led to an accommodative policy. If the old made a facultative subject, then at beginning of strengthened position by removing provisions, even though they were not obligatory. Until finally, through Law number 2 (1989), required be taught all channels, types, and levels education. And right every student get lessons their religion is educators. This research includes historical studies, because it relies on past data, whose steps consist four main activities, namely heuristics, verification, interpretation, historiography. influenced several factors, including; government’s determination implement Pancasila purely consistently after was diverted era; weakening power that time so political support muslims as majority population; There intellectual transformation muslim thinkers activists towards harmonious complementary relations between Islam Islamic ideas are more easily accepted; experience process rapid social, educational, economic mobilization people involved can influence policies pro-muslim direction.
